Instagram Updates You Need to Know – May 2018
At the Facebook F8 conference on May 1st, there were six really important Instagram updates announced that we think you are going to want to know about.
Here they are in all their glory:
1. New Explore Tab Design
Users will soon be able to become a part of a community by going beyond following hashtags instead of following specific Topic Channels. This will give you more control over what you see in the Explore tab.
This design is giving us major #PinterestVibes – anyone else?

2. Group Video Chat
Apparently, we are ALL loving Instagram Live so much that Instagram will be introducing Group Video Chat (similar to Facebook Messenger). So, if you want to have a virtual party with your Instagram friends, you will soon be able to!
This feature could also be used for congratulating competition winners face to face (how cool would that be?!) and having a not-so-traditional meetings with your team.
3. Spotify Integration
Want to share your favorite song with your Instagram family? Now you can. You will soon have the option to share a sticker of your favorite song on Instagram which followers can then click on to listen to on Spotify.
4. GoPro Integration
Travel bloggers, rejoice! You can now share your GoPro videos in your Instagram Stories. It is just another way that Instagram is trying to improve the ease-of-use of Instagram Stories.
5. Augmented Reality Filters in IG Stories
Developers (aka, super techy people) will have the ability to create AR filters that Instagrammers can feature in their stories.
Yes – this is kind of Snapchat-esque, but we don’t mind one bit!
6. Anti-Bullying Improvements
As a step towards ending cyberbullying, Instagram users can hide users that are promoting hate speech or harassing others.
Is This Good News?
In short – yes! All of these updates are overwhelmingly positive and look like they will help in improving the enjoyment of Instagram for everyone.
Make sure to share this article with your Instagram-friends to let them know you’ll be able to have a virtual meet-up with them!
